Singapore Fashion Week: My thoughts on the Diane von Furstenberg talk

by CARMEN. _DSC2421 copy

Fashion goddess. Fashion Icon. Fashion Revolutionary.  These are some of the words used to describe Diane von Furstenberg. Last week I was invited to hear the inspirational story of the woman behind the iconic wrap dress, held at the futuristic glass-walled Lasalle College of the Arts Campus. This series of “fashion talks” marked the kick off to (insert name of non existent car sponsor here…wait what goodbye Audi??!!!) Singapore Fashion Week, and we will give you our thoughts about the shows in another post.

Some facts you may not known about DVF : Diane was born to Jewish parents and was born in Belgium. Her mother survived Auschwitz concentration camp. Later in life, Diane was a real princess when she married into German royalty, although has since lost the “Princess” title after divorcing her husband. Her influence on women’s fashion is so profound that she even has some designs showcased at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Diane shared how in her early 20’s, she landed in the U.S. with a suitcase of five dresses she had made in Italy from Jersey cloth (as she considered this fabric to be most flattering for women but also made you feel a million bucks when wearing it) . DvF managed to secure an appointment with the well known socialite editor of Vogue, Diana Vreeland – an advocate of celebrating uniqueness. Vreeland loved DVF’s simple style and elegance and this set the stage for the remarkable growth and success of DVF. Within six years of entering the fashion world in 1970, Diane had created a fashion frenzy and was selling 25,000 dresses a week. The journey of the dress sees the brand now in over 70 countries and enjoys worldwide recognition.

il_570xN.536973982_3wnn
Some of the first DvF dresses above.. Did you know it’s the 40th anniversary for the wrap dress?!

Fun fact: Natasha accepted an invitation to visit the flagship boutique in the Meatpacker’s District in Manhattan and is often seen wearing a DVF wrap out and about in Singapore. It’s getting a bit too hot for me to do the same in Hong Kong, but I do love my DvF dresses and think they are perfect when indoors and the air-con has been working in overdrive.

Diane has become quite the philanthropist and takes pride in inspiring young women in the industry to succeed. One of her mantra’s that she mentioned at the talk was “your only regret in life should be not doing the things you want to”. WOW. On a personal level that really spoke to me, as after leaving corporate world to start up my own business “Survive Asia“, I do have days where I wonder whether it would have been easier to stay in my previous line of work with all its security and benefits. But then i hear those words from DvF’s and I realise that i WOULD have regretted not trying, so it made my heart skip a beat. And during the talk I sat next to other inspiring entrepreneurial women in Singapore who have also taken a leap of faith, and we were all moved by this. It was also inspiring to see that via the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), Diane and other designers who have “made it” are able to mentor the new generation of designers coming on board – it’s what she now refers to as the “legacy” stage in her career.

Another positive note from the talk: Diane mentioned her latest “muse” is women who are comfortable with themselves in their own skin (now we’re talking, if only all designers in the industry thought like this!).

_DSC2440

After the talk (the lecture hall was packed with not one seat left), there was some classic  “mingling” with fashion folk in the courtyard of La Salle, and I managed to chat to gorgeous Brittany Hampton, the winner of the E! show “House of DVF” and Ambassador for the DVF brand.

_DSC2450Brittany already has her own designs in Nordstrom stores throughout the US and in DVF stores. She also styles celebs in Hollywood including Ariana Grande and Jaden Smith!

Overall the reception from the DvF talk was very positive – the crowd were pumped after her inspiring talk and it was great to see a positive side of the industry that was supportive, inclusive and celebrating women everywhere  (because let’s face it, the fashion industry can feel anything but the above sometimes!).

Japanese hair salon Covo, an awesome little hidden gem on Keong Saik Road!

NEWSFLASH! Natasha has found her favorite hair salon in Singapore and that is  a HUGE deal. Why? Firstly, she’s Indonesian. Many Indonesian women are obsessed with their hair. Like, obsessed. Secondly, she has had plenty of hair mishaps in Singapore – the kind she chose to bury deep inside her long-term memory bank. There have been emergency weekend trips to Jakarta because she had to save whatever was left to be saved of her tragic hair. Thirdly, the salon is not located in a mall, it’s located on one of Singapore’s hippest streets, Keong Saik Road. YAY! That means we can avoid that little impromptu “window shopping” moments that end up in “I have to buy these shoes, because they go perfectly with my new hair!”. And lastly, it’s Japanese. Who doesn’t like anything and everything Japanese? We do!

The name of this great hidden gem is Covo. If you can’t find it, look for the bright neon orange door with the writing KjStudio on top, which by the way is also owned by Covo. If you still can’t find it, then look for Potatohead because it’s approximately across the road from it.

You now know where to go if you’re having a super bad hair day, yet you’re heading out for a date night or dinner and drinks with your girlfriends. Pop by Covo for a quick blow dry and out you go to enjoy some yummy cocktails and dinner. Lucky for you they close at 8 pm!

IMG_2877

IMG_2876Natasha loves the sleek and minimalist décor of this Japanese hair salon. No frills, yet speaks volume in quality.

IMG_3720Natasha went for a quick wash and blow dry and specifically requested for Covo’s senior hair stylist, Asako, because she’s amazing (not to mention pretty). She went to Covo two weeks ago to try out Ombre hair and loved the result!

She did it with such care and precision, not to mention the service quality in Covo is amazing. You don’t often get quality and great service at the same time, but Natasha’s experience at Covo was a really great one.

After having her hair washed, Asako asked if she can massage Natasha’s neck and shoulders. Seriously? I think she may have said yes a little too enthusiastically.

IMG_3587Feeling sheepish, Natasha apologized for having such big thick hair. To which, Asako laughed and said “don’t worry, you have beautiful hair” (thank you Asako, you sure know how to make a girl happy).

IMG_3719After air drying Natasha’s hair, she took out the most powerful straightening iron she could find (okay that part we made up), and straightened the crap out of Natasha’s frizzy, stubborn hair.

TA-DAAAA!!

IMG_3610-0Then Natasha can finally breathe a sigh of huge relief, because her hair eventually became super decent as Asako showed her skills with the curling iron.

IMG_3718

And voila! Awesome hair!!IMG_3716

IMG_3711-0Here’s some exciting news for our lovely readers!  From 3 February to 3 March, you can get a blow dry for $25 (u.p. $35), 20% off Covo hair services for first timers (applicable on service only, not on Covo product purchases). Simply say Carmen and Natasha to get the discount.

IMG_3712-0

IMG_3722One more thing worth mentioning is that Covo is currently collaborating with ePloof!  – which is a super cute kids online shop selling high quality toys from around the globe. To all the mamas out there and also to the friends of mamas, the toys make an excellent gift idea. It’s definitely worth checking out!

C&N ♥ The colour RED

Carmen & Natasha are seeing red everywhere… and no, that’s not because people are being exceptionally annoying during *the most frustrating time to shop for anything thanks to the frenetic crowds consumed by retail madness and taking pictures with Santa* period.

It’s just that the colour red really IS everywhere – in store displays, shopping centers, the street, including our respective homes , so we decided that red is our fashion pick of the week. Yay! This is our take on wearing red during the holidays season.

BeFunky_null_1.jpgCarmen’s outfit: Asos top, skirt from Chatuchak market in Bangkok, Isabel Marant shoes, Zara jacket and Chanel handbag. As for accessories, well Carmen painted her nails in a funky Christmas pattern (see picture further drown below).

BeFunky_IMG_1366.jpg IMG_1261Oh and red lips is also considered fashion accessory by the way.

BeFunky_IMG_1374.jpg

Here’s Natasha’s outfit details: Mango brocade top, Zara faux leather black pants (which every girl should have in their closet by the way! It’s surprisingly versatile and add a lot of pizzaz to your outfit), Ferragamo laser-cut ballerina flats, Chanel black clutch, Viktor & Rolf glasses, and Carolina Herrera bracelet.

IMG_9134IMG_9181IMG_9182IMG_9223IMG_9129

The fact that red and black is a winning combo is no surprise. It’s as classic as black and white, only with a bit more oomph and sass put into it. Don’t be scared to mix leather with feminine texture or shape such as the A-line skirt that Carmen wore or the brocade top that Natasha threw on.

There you have it. Happy Christmas shopping, darling readers!

xoxo

Carmen and Natasha

C&N ♥ Hermes Bags

First of all, can we start by drawing your attention to our new blog logo and header? Isn’t it gorgeous? Yay! We’re super happy with it because it really encapsulates us – Carmen and Natasha – and our demographic location! We’ve been meaning to do it for a while, so we’re super happy to have finally done it.

Secondly, we’re starting a new ‘series’ of blog posts called ‘C&N loves’ – which involves our top fashion pick of the week (okay it may not happen every week, lets be realistic!). The whole idea is Carmen wears that particular fashion pick in Hong Kong and Natasha does the same in Singapore. So this blog post is the first of such series!

Our pick for this post is our ever reliable Hermes bag. And no, not the Birkin or the Kelly. There’s time for everything, and it’s certainly not time for us to carry those lust-worthy bags.  Natasha’s go-to bag is her Hermes Evelyn bag in Jaipur and for Carmen, it’s her Hermes Garden Party bag in Etope. This bag goes with a lot of outfits and can fit a lot of things (and trust us when we say we always have heaps of junk that we dump in our handbags!).

So this is how Natasha’s outfit pairing:IMG_4590

Natasha can’t believe her luck when she saw the wedges at Nine West because the color was exactly identical with her bag!!!

IMG_4646IMG_4699

And this is Carmen’s outfit combo:

BeFunky_IMG_1178.jpg

Carmen is in love with her awesome Alexander McQueen for Puma pumps! Not only are they comfy, but they’re surprisingly versatile.

BeFunky_IMG_1179.jpgSo there you have it, our darling readers. Stay tuned for the next ‘C&N loves’ post 🙂

xoxo

Patricia Rox Rocks!

image-11We’re always super excited when a new brand launches in Singapore, because it means we can be part of its journey from the very beginning and it’s amazing how much the fashion landscape in this island has changed in the past few years! When Natasha received an invitation to attend the Singapore launch of Patricia Rox, she was beside herself (especially after taking a peek at the website and semi-stalking her collection on Instagram). The event not only commemorated the launch of the Patricia Rox brand, but it also showcased the Spring/Summer 2015 The Fantasy Capsule, which is full of amazeballs exotic, intricate prints and bright bold colors, which we both LOVE! Check out this gorgeous scarf below – the vividness of the color on silk is just simply breathtaking! IMG_8803.PNGNatasha had the honor of chatting to Patricia Haywood, the genius behind the Patricia Rox brand and found out that she lived in Jakarta for four years (which is where Natasha is originally from). She’s a global citizen through and through and lived in Paris, London, Scotland, Toronto, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Uganda, Indonesia and Singapore. Another surprising fact about Patricia is that she used to be a fashion lawyer – seriously, she must’ve been one of the hottest lawyers around! We’re just super glad she made the quantum leap from being a lawyer to a super talented fashion designer instead! IMG_8845 IMG_8818.JPG Her collection, the Fantasy Capsule, is everything about Patricia’s whimsical childhood fantasies. And fantasies they must have been! Natasha was in awe with the silk kaftan style dresses with floral-inspired prints, vibrant and circus-inspired scarves, and buffalo horn and enamel jewelry (check out the picture below). Her design is effortlessly chic, and also versatile for resort, traveling or fancy cocktail parties (which makes us want to throw a garden party just to have an excuse to wear her dress). image image-3This one below is Natasha’s favorite! The turqoise color with tasteful embellishment around the neckline really makes the dress standout. Dress it down with wedges or take it up a notch with a pair of killer strappy Jimmy Choos. IMG_8844 IMG_8805.PNGEach print is a labor of love and painstakingly hand drawn by an artist, with some prints taking 200-300 hours to draw! image-2 We are also loving her gorge silk scarves and there’s a story behind every print, which you can find out from her website. The one below was produced in a family-run silk mill in Como. Come on, how beautiful are the colors and the paisley-inspired print! Currently, her scarves are available at gnossem, the Singapore online store, but you can also find her collection in Bali’s Aman resorts and shopzaozao in Hong Kong.IMG_8816.JPG IMG_8804.PNG IMG_8801.PNG IMG_8800.PNG IMG_8802.PNG IMG_8846 Rumor has it there’s a plan for the opening of her first flagship store on the shore, but hey we’re just super glad Patricia followed her passion which led her to this beautiful Fantasy Capsule!

Looking for gift ideas? The Kase at ION is a good place to start.

IMG_5457.PNG

Every year Carmen and Natasha always aspire to be organized Christmas shoppers. “Must not procrastinate, must beat the Christmas rush, must go Christmas shopping early” – we chant the same mantra every year, but of course always fail to actually execute our grand plan.

Soooo this year, we’re on the hunt to find great gift ideas for our loved ones. We were thrilled when we found The Kase, a French international mobile phone and tablet accessories brand that was launched in 2012.

It’s a small store located at B2 of ION Orchard, but it really packs a punch. Natasha was there for nearly an hour looking at all the case options – there’s definitely no shortage of options! Pricewise, really reasonable, depending on whether you want to get a customized case or not. The ones for iPhone 6 are SGD49.90, but they’re really worth it if you’re thinking of birthday or Christmas gifts for your BFF or even your sibling. Not only do they get a cool personalized gift, but you get brownie points for being extra thoughtful. Yay!

IMG_5458.PNG

IMG_5459.PNG

These are examples of the personalized cases. Pretty cool right? You can put anything on the cover! To do that, all you have to do is send a picture of your choice to the Kase’s email address and they will do a mock-up on the computer screen for you. And once you’re happy with the way it looks, all they have to do is digitally print it on. The whole process takes about 10-20 minutes, so you can even do it during your lunch break.

IMG_5461.PNG

IMG_5462.PNG

Natasha is loving the cute prints below. They would make a pretty cool fashion accessory!

IMG_5443.PNG

Here are some of Natasha’s favorite designs:IMG_5444.PNG

IMG_5445.PNG

IMG_5448.PNG

IMG_5446.PNG

IMG_5449.PNG

IMG_5450.PNG

IMG_5451.PNG

We don’t know about you, our darling readers, but we think our SECOND best (the first being our loved ones of course!) companion (our mobile phones) – deserve to be dressed up once in a while. Perfect for the holiday season, we reckon (did someone say office Christmas party or New Year’s soiree?).

IMG_5452.PNG

Oh, the Kase also has cases for iPads. Natasha likes this one in particular 🙂

IMG_5456.PNG

So after spending an hour in the shop, Natasha finally walked out with two cases, one for her and one for Carmen who’s spending a bit of time in Hong Kong these days.

IMG_5455.PNG

Ta-daaaa! Here’s what she bought. A personalized case with a picture of Natasha and her cheeky monkey of a daughter and a Survive Asia case, which has Carmen’s company logo on it. Oh yes, we forgot to mention that the personalized cases also make an awesome marketing tool for those business owners out there!

In love with Henri Charpentier’s shade of pink

First of all, can we start this blog post by declaring our love for this shade of pink, which is why we decided to do a ‘shoefie’ (read: shoe selfie) on the pink carpet. Red carpet is too ordinary for Carmen and Natasha pink is more unique 🙂 Natasha is loving her new shoes that she found at Marks and Spencer for… wait for it…. SGD50 (the original price was SGD110). Carmen is equally in love with her smoking hot red patent studded Prada sandals from the recent La Prendo sale. IMG_5152.JPGWhen we heard that the French-inspired Japanese Patisserie is opening its doors at Dempsey, we just had to check it out. After all, who wouldn’t be excited by the words ‘Japanese’ ‘French’ and ‘Patisserie’ all in the same sentence?!!? Henri Charpentier is very fancy shmancy with all the frills, but unfortunately not even the Japanese staff and our own Crepe Suzette station can impress us (did we mention the crepe suzette costs SGD22?). The service was very average (to put things mildly) and there was also no music when we went there, so the room was filled with this canteen-like noise of people chit chatting. The decor was beautiful though, and the fact that the cafe overlooks the lush greenery helps create the tranquil feel to the place. IMG_5178.JPGHere’s a picture of our $22 Crepe Suzette! IMG_5195.JPGWe must admit that Henri Charpentier’s financiers and madeleines are too die for! They literally melt in your mouth. God bless those happy Hokkaido cows! They sure produce the yummiest butter and milk.IMG_5528.JPGEnough about the restaurant review – which this post was not intended to be. Let’s focus on Carmen and Natasha’s outfit. Let’s face it, black and white and red is definitely a winning combo. It’s classic, but far from boring. And of course the red Prada sandals polish off the look beautifully.IMG_5428.PNGHow cool does the messy bun look on Carmen? A bit of attitude and personality is always a good addition to your swag. IMG_5430.PNG IMG_5432.PNG We swear we did not intentionally color coordinate our outfits! Great minds think alike, we’d say. 🙂 Natasha wore her red dress and completed the look with her beloved fuchsia Saint Laurent mini duffel bag and her Marks and Spencer shoes. Oh and Kate Spade bracelet plus Zara sunnies. IMG_5436.PNG IMG_5433-0.PNGThe green wall provides a good backdrop for our selfies. Yes, once in a while we can’t help but do fun selflies. IMG_5438.PNGAnd we’re always super grateful when we find a total stranger to take a decent pic of us. IMG_5435-0.PNG

Hansel Fairy Lights Collection is a good remnder that the holiday season is near!

IMG_0081.PNGCarmen and Natasha are big supporters of local talent in this island we call home. For now. (the ‘for now’ part is very important, because being expats we never know where we’ll end up by the time we finish writing this blog.)

We’re particularly big fans of Jo Soh’s work, the creative genius behind the successful local brand Hansel (which, by the way, is the name of her dog). We were super excited when she personally invited us to a preview of her Fairy Lights collection at her boutique on the second floor of Mandarin Gallery.

IMG_0011.JPGJo’s inspiration came from these pretty fairy lights, which typically symbolizes festivity and happy occasion.

IMG_0092.PNGCheck out 3 of her fairy lights design, which she turned into different designs; coil, string and fairy light.

IMG_0086.PNGHere’s Natasha with Jo Soh, unfortunately Carmen is still in Europe so she missed out on this awesome opportunity to meet one of her favorite Asian designers.

IMG_0015.PNG

IMG_0094.PNGBeing a former Textile Design student herself, Natasha appreciates the technique of transferring a design onto the chosen fabric. Jo uses bamboo quill and Indian ink as her medium, because she loves the organic imperfection it achieves through the squiggles that are all of different width. She then does repeats to make a pattern of her scribbles, which is digitally printed onto fabric, which for this collection, Jo has chosen cotton rayon and polyester.

The cool thing about these fabrics is that they’re durable and low maintenance, all you have to do is throw it in the washing machine and it even requires minimal ironing! Perfect for traveling – which is why Carmen decided to pack her beloved HDB print dress from Jo’s previous collection on her trip around Scandinavia.

IMG_0095.PNGBeing a huge fan of bright colors, this design is definitely Natasha’s favorite! Especially the maxidress below. It’s so pretty!

IMG_0087.PNG

IMG_0082.PNGThis is Natasha’s second favorite design. It’s simple, but far from boring!

IMG_0083.PNGLook at how intricately and perfectly stitched the black threads are and also the ‘lightbulb’. It’s the small details that make a great design!

IMG_0091.PNGThe monochrome design is super versatile, because you can dress it up or down and definitely wearable to the office.

IMG_0085.PNGHow gorgeous is this bow accent on the puffy skirt. Pair this skirt with a bright colored shirt and wear it to work or throw on a T-shirt and a pair of cute ballerina flats to complete the look, perfect for a weekend stroll!

Inverted Edge/ The Wyld Shop fashion event last weekend

Carmen popped into this event last Saturday – and was pleasantly surprised by how super friendly everyone was!

The event was held at the Song Lin building – walking distance from Arab street. Carmen is such a huge fan of this area!

BeFunky_IMG_3415.jpg

Gorgeous clothes and accessories were spotted at this event – check it out below:

Loved this leopard print maxi below – how stunning!!
BeFunky_null_3.jpg

Carmen tried on the pink maxi on the left and it’s an amazing colour – so gorgeous and very light fabric, so great for Singapore!BeFunky_null_665.jpg

Carmen loved this black dress below by Hunt No More (an Aussie brand). Available at the Wyld Shop.IMG_3429Le Specs sunglasses were spotted below too – love the leopard print ones at the front! Also available at the Wyld Shop.
BeFunky_null_223.jpgInverted Edge were also offering jewellery and accessories for sale – they have such unique taste which is great! The belt bottom right was stunning and Carmen is also a big fan of that black wire bracelet on the right – simple but would look jazz up even a simple black or white shift dress.

BeFunky_null33_3.jpg

The New Zealand brand Karen Walker was also made available at the event – they were all new pieces (so not part of the sale), but we love the funky prints! We feel that some of her prints are like a younger version of DVF! This brand has been spotted on Scarlett Johansson, and the Fall/Winter 2014 collection was showcased in front of a packed house at New York Fashion Week. Available via Inverted Edge.
BeFunky_IMG_3431.jpgSamantha Wills jewellery (which we LOVE!) was also on sale at 50% off! For those who love bohemian inspired jewellery, you must check out this popular Aussie brand (avail at Inverted Edge). Oh and Carmen purchased the white belt spotted at the top of this pic! Also purchased were two dresses, so we’ll showcase that soon!
BeFunky_null_334.jpg

The Inverted Edge guys also arranged a makeup artist and photographer to come in and  were offering complementary makeovers! A nice little touch, and Carmen decided to make the most of it!
BeFunky_IMG_3419.jpg

Carmen requested a natural look – here was the final result! The super talented makeup artist was Anggerek Hood.IMG_3453

Overall, a great event held by the Inverted Edge & Wyld Shop guys! You can check out their details below should you wish to visit their showrooms:

niin

IMG_2724

Gorgeous eco friendly jewellery brand also based in Hong Kong, niin sources semi precious stones, precious metals, wood and shell to create jewellery that somehow manages to feel indestructible yet fragile at the same time. IMG_2725 IMG_2726Loved these necklaces above that would look perfect with a simple white tank top and jeans. You can find them here:

Carmen Chan

We loved Carmen Chan’s jewellery below, and will feature more of her work in another post soon. Another brand from Hong Kong, her designs are all beautifully hand made.
IMG_2730

These rings above were part of Carmen’s “Universe” collection and sold very well during the trade fair according to the designer Carmen – and we can see why! Created using transparent rock quartz sourced from Brazil, the rocks were especially selected with unique dusty inclusions inside to create a more “romantic” ethereal look – like peering into the galaxy! Comes in both white gold and yellow gold plated sterling silver. IMG_2732These earrings titled “Meteor Shower” above and worn below by the designer Carmen Chan were incredible. Loved these.IMG_2738IMG_2734Her necklaces above were part of the “Messenger” collection and were also very fun – we can imagine layering a couple of these at different lengths!

You can check out more of Carmen Chan’s collection at:
http://carmenchanjewelry.com

Ade.G.

IMG_2741

Another favourite at Blueprint, Ade.G. is a Singapore based brand and we are in love! Especially the grey necklace show above and below on Ade herself, who mentioned that she does this as a part time hobby on the side – how incredible is that?!

IMG_2747IMG_2742The bracelets below were also very cool – we’d be happy with one in each colour!
IMG_2745

Ade.G is actually available around Singapore – you can check out their facebook page for info on their stockists at:

https://www.facebook.com/AdeG.Accessories

Laael

Designed in Amsterdam, and handmade in Italy, this was by far our favourite handbags spotted at Blueprint! We just love the combination of the prints and bright colours, and the quality was unbelievably good.
IMG_2749 IMG_2750 IMG_2751For more details check out their website below:

Fabitoria

IMG_2756Printed mini skirts with sneakers are SO in fashion right now, so we loved these digitally printed skirts by Taiwanese brand Fabitoria for being bang on trend! We are especially loving the front botanical print!

There are no front or back seams on the skirts, so you can wear them front and back which we think is pretty cool (two skirts for the price of one….right?!). These skirts aren’t cheap, but we’re loving them nonetheless.

https://www.facebook.com/Fabitoria

And there you have it – our top picks from Blueprint!

Carmen & Natasha: The daily look

Natasha’s look: soft beige tones which goes amazingly well with snake print shoes and white cut offs!!

BeFunky_IMG_2221b.jpgCarmen’s look: again beige tones with the skirt but this time accentuated with black and gold. BeFunky_IMG_2220b.jpgThe common “accessory” spotted in both pics above? COFFEE CUPS!!!!!

Window shopping: Mulberry

It’s great to window shop in SG – especially with the super expensive brands.

Here is a sneaky peak at what’s in store at Mulberry right now….

Screen Shot 2014-04-16 at 3.22.08 PM

We love everything in this pic. The white clutch bottom right, the orange handbag (which looks super classy and the scarf! Oh the scarf!), and of course, the summery chic dress which Carmen and Natasha will be dreaming about for months… sigh.

We love how Mulberry has been super clever with this display – showing us different ways to mix and match their merchandise. Devastatingly clever, as now we would like the lot.

You hear that Mulberry? Carmen and Natasha have eyes on you….

Statement jewellery spotted at Colette in Mandarin Gallery

Carmen and Natasha are SUPER obsessed with statement jewellery at the moment. Anyone else feeling the same way, or is it just us?

Always on the lookout for statement jewellery, Carmen & Natasha spotted Colette at Mandarin gallery (and conveniently next door to the shoe store Scarlet & Ebony).

j14

Colette feels like an Aladdin’s cave filled with all sorts of jewellery..from the BLING CHA-CHING to understated elegance, there is definitely something for everyone in this store.

j11 j10

STATEMENT RINGS!!!!! Yes please.
BeFunky_null_22.jpgBeFunky_null_2.jpgBeFunky_null_12.jpgEver wondered where to find a fascinator hat in Singapore? This place had loads just casually displayed on the cashier desk!

Handbags galore too…. Oh and look more hats! j5

Loving this coin necklace below – would look gorgeous paired with a grecian dress. j4

Cool cuff bracelets below! j3

Carmen actually noticed this white necklace below and this is what drew her into the store in the first place. So gorgeous and it’s hard to find a white necklace that doesn’t look cheap. Although admittedly the price tag wasn’t exactly cheap for this either…. Around the $200-300 mark from memory. j2.jpg

Vintage fashion in Singapore: Her Vintage Finds

Her Vintage Finds were very kind in sending Carmen a gorgeous vintage dress to show Singapore that you can rock vintage around the little red dot! So here is Carmen rocking the vintage look (note: Carmen did have to alter the dress slightly, but as you can see it now fits great!).

Screen Shot 2014-04-16 at 2.56.32 PM

Carmen decided to accessorise the vintage dress with a wide white belt (from BCBG Maxazria) and a chunky necklace from Thailand (featured in one of our previous blog posts on shopping in Bangkok!). She also glammed up the makeup using Shizens mascara (which really lengthens lashes!) and a bright red lip (ILIA lip gloss in heartbeat) to finish off the look. BeFunky_null_1.jpgHere are some other dresses that Carmen and Natasha approve of from Her Vintage Finds. It’s so nice to glam it up and look elegant even in this heat!

80s VINTAGE EMMA SKIRT – $39 SGD

We could imagine this skirt would go so well with a flowy soft pastel top tucked into the skirt and pointy heels. Loving this skirt and at such an affordable price it’s so easy to rock vintage!

70s HOSSIN DRESS – $54 SGD

This dress below is so bright and cheerful, and we are loving the asian cheong sam inspired twist too. With the right accessories (we’re thinking white!) this would look amazing and we love how HVF styled this dress with a gold belt too.

70s ONYX RING – $16.90 SGD

Loving this ring with the black nail polish!

Scarlet & Ebony: Up to 90% off shoes sale in Singapore!

Yes that’s right – up to 90% off gorgeous shoes at the moment at the Scarlet & Ebony store in Mandarin Gallery, Orchard.

This sale is CRAY CRAY, and on top of that we noticed that not many people seem to be aware of this sale, so you seriously need to get down into this store before all the good stuff is gone!

The shoes are gorgeous, high quality and include top notch brands (we even spotted Christian Lacroix shoes here!).

One of the most awesome shoe stores in SG, you have GOT to get down here!

BeFunky_Tintype_3.jpg

Carmen ended up buying these gorgeous Italian shoes below, discounted from over $300sgd to just over $100. Complete bargain! BeFunky_IMG_1868.jpg

There are a LOT of shoes on sale, and as you can see below they have a whole range of discounts that apply to their shoes, from 10-90% off (that’s quite a range!). BeFunky_null_1.jpg

These shoes below weren’t on sale, but we love them anyway. They will knock you back $299SGD  – we know these aren’t Charles & Keith prices but they are great quality! BeFunky_null_2.jpgThe store also sells bags, jewellery & other accessories! Loving this nautical themed bag below in the window display (we also love the turquoise shoe!) BeFunky_null_55.jpg

They also sell flip flops with a slight heel for those who want comfort combined with class, and we tested them – they are super comfortable!
BeFunky_IMG_1864.jpg

Some more gorgeous shoes in their window display – you could definitely go crazy in this store!!! BeFunky_null_28.jpgWe have heard the sale will be on for at least the next few weeks.

EGG3: An Erskine Road Gem

Carmen was recently wandering around Erskine road (near Chinatown) and spotted this gem called EGG3! We are loving how super creative the retail market is becoming in Singapore (it seems the bar is raised pretty high these days!) and it’s such a joy to stumble on yet another creative space where you can see so much love and passion has gone into creating a fun store which is so enjoyable to browse through! IMG_1700

We love how the whole store seems like a curation of individual pieces, with jewellery set amongst printed t-shirts amongst cool work bags amongst Moroccan lanterns!IMG_1695

Loving the shoes below – especially the colourful print ones at the bottom – so fun and very Carmen & Natasha!!!IMG_1697

As you can see from the picture below, the store is a treasure trove. You could spend so much time just admiring all the individual pieces before even considering trying anything on!IMG_1698

Ok we are in love with the cushions below, but the funky tee next to a cute print dress is also very sweet. IMG_1693

Their earrings below in the white cupboard were also very cute and VERY AFFORDABLE! Think – fashion jewellery that is reasonably priced – finally! IMG_1696Loved the cute display below! It reminds us of all the care and effort taken into creating intricate window displays in Selfridges or Harvey Nichols in London – this is just a bit closer to home! Love the vintage clocks, prints of birds and random plants scattered around!

iROO: what’s in stores right now in SG

iROO is one of those brands where it is fun to walk into the store, but then you try to work out how much of their collection is actually wearable and what should be considered… well let’s just call it “art”.

So we decided to venture in this time to find out what was currently in stores right now…

IMG_1658

This piece above is actually pretty cool, but then again we can’t really see ourselves walking down the street without either knocking someone out with those serious ruffles or just getting stared at for being a sad wannabe Carrie Bradshaw from SATC.

BeFunky_IMG_1651.jpg

Jury’s out on this green dress above too. It looks cute on the rack and totally in love with the colour, but as soon as you put it on you can’t help but feel the shapeless sack just doesn’t suit everyone….BeFunky_IMG_1652.jpg

You will probably either love or hate this outfit above. The “skort” was actually super comfortable and from memory not expensive at all. We liked the top too and could imagine it would look great paired with white jeans. Very aztec inspired.

BeFunky_IMG_1649.jpg

The fun canary yellow print dress above was Carmen’s favourite. Super chirpy and fun for Singapore – we could imagine teaming this with a white belt to cinch in the waist and could definitely imagine this in our closets. IMG_1659

iRoo actually has some pretty cool bags, shoes and accessories at the moment. Loved these cutout black boots above.
IMG_1656

Also liked the bright red cutout back above which was fun and adds a pop of colour to your outfit!IMG_1657

Ah yes, our favourite yellow dress pops up in the photo above again – we can’t fault the layout of the iROO store which feels crisp and clean and very easy to browse. The service was also very attentive (in a good way) and they help you adjust your clothes after you have tried them on (this was at the Great World City store).
IMG_1648

Overall, it’s definitely worth popping in to have a look – there are some gems and we can’t help but think that this store really has something for everyone (which is why we don’t love everything, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing!).

Carmen & Natasha visited the iRoo store at Great World City. There are other stores in Singapore at MBS and Vivocity.

Cover bad hair days in Singapore!

We love how celebrities have used hairbands and hats as a fashion accessory – but also as a way to cover bad hair days. And let’s face it – they are constantly bombarded by paparazzi like 24/7 – so there are going to be days when they just don’t have time to have their hairdresser come over to give them their perfect look.

Carmen and Natasha try hard to avoid bad hair days (and in Singapore there are a LOT of them), but sometimes we just don’t have the time to sort our hair out. And from what we know, that’s pretty normal across all women – celebrities or not.

So, we started looking out for options that were fashionable, quick and easy, and meant we could still feel fabulous despite having an off day!

First up – some inspiring pictures of celebrities rocking accessories that cover bad hair days!

First up – Eva Mendes. This girl looks great in everything but we are really loving how sophisticated she looks in her black hairband!

And Natalie Portman looking so tres chic below. 12428721_E48nwxfa_c

And here are some more inspiring pics:

Loving the first look below with the black hairband, and the third look where the hairband provides a pop of colour (and it matches the lipstick – great idea!).

Here is Skye Townsend rocking her look below. Love how you can wear something so simple like a black tank top and then top it off with a funky print hairband and away you go!photo

Another gorgeous printed hairband we love:tumblr_lpfskoMZEg1qh9n5lo1_500

So we hear you ask – how do you get this inspiring look in SINGAPORE? Well good news – there are hairbands available at surviveSG.com – check out below! These are all available for $25 SGD with free shipping too.

They have brights – perfect for island getaways!

brights2

And pastels – love the idea of wearing these with a white sundress!
